Meet Dr. Colin Penrose

We are excited to announce that Dr. Colin T. Penrose will be added to the Midwest Center for Joint Replacement surgeon team in the summer of 2022!

Dr. Penrose was born in Minnesota and grew up in Arizona. He attended Stanford University where he completed dual degrees in biology and human biology, and a minor in economics. He then pursued his medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine where he was awarded AOA honors and was selected by the deans as the most outstanding medical student in his graduating class. He remained at Duke for his Orthopaedic Surgery residency, then went on to a total joint arthroplasty fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Although he has always been drawn to science and medicine, Dr. Penrose’s passion for joint replacement began in college when he had the opportunity to take part in a medical mission trip to the Dominican Republic with a mentor. He continued international medical mission work throughout medical school and residency, returning to the Dominican Republic several times with MOVE Missions and to El Salvador with Operation Walk.

Dr. Penrose met Dr. Berend through their joint connection to Duke Orthopaedics. He is excited to join the MCJR team next summer.

Dr. Penrose has published numerous hip and knee arthoplasty book chapters, scientific research articles, and presented his research at local and national conferences. He is dedicated to patient care, research, and education and loves getting to know his patients.

In his free time, he enjoys baseball, football, hiking, and snowboarding. Dr. Penrose and his wife Elaine, an Olympic silver medalist he met at Stanford, are looking forward to living in Indianapolis with their two amazing daughters and their golden retriever.

Dr. Penrose will begin seeing patients for hip and knee conditions next summer in our Indianapolis and Bloomington offices.
