After struggling to keep up while officiating college basketball, Dan Morgan found the solution to his pain and regained his active lifestyle through total knee replacement with Dr. Wesley Lackey at Midwest Center for Joint Replacement.
For Dan Morgan, basketball has always been part of his life. As a college basketball official, he spent years running up and down the court until the pain in his knee made that impossible.
“I was officiating a college game in Cincinnati,” Dan recalls. “I simply couldn’t keep up, and my knee hurt. I sat in the locker room at halftime and thought, ‘It’s not fair to these kids.’ They get four, maybe five years to play college basketball, and it wasn’t fair that I couldn’t give them my best.”
That moment led him to seek help. Through a mutual friend, Grant Foley, Executive Director at the Midwest Center for Joint Replacement (MCJR), Dan was referred to Dr. Wesley Lackey for a second opinion.
A Personalized Approach
“I was surprised when Dr. Lackey used different procedures,” Dan says. “He showed me my MRI, and even animated it. I didn’t know that was possible.”
What impressed him most was Dr. Lackey’s clarity and care. “He sat down and explained everything in a clear, professional, yet friendly way,” Dan says. “He knew I wanted to stay active, to keep officiating and running community events and that’s when he recommended a total knee replacement.”
“He really listened,” Dan recalls. “He understood my goals and made me feel confident in the process.”
A Swift Recovery
The surgery and recovery went smoother than Dan ever imagined.
“My procedure was 45 minutes long,” he says. “I was driving again in less than two weeks, and back to work in three.”
Today, Dan is back to doing everything he loves: officiating games, running Disney races, and staying active in his community.
“Having a total knee replacement with Dr. Lackey was the best decision I’ve ever made,” he says. “I know it’s a scary thought—replacing a part of your body with something artificial—but living with pain you don’t have to endure is even scarier.”
Thanks to Dr. Lackey and the team at MCJR, Dan’s back on the court, living life to the fullest.
