After years of worsening hip pain, construction company owner and grandfather of ten, Chris Cullina, found lasting relief through minimally invasive hip replacement with Dr. Joshua Carter at Midwest Center for Joint Replacement.
For years, Chris Cullina brushed off his hip and back pain, chalking it up to the physical demands of running a construction company. But after taking a hard fall on concrete during the COVID-19 pandemic, things slowly got worse.
“I was helping my sister on a step ladder and fell about four feet onto the concrete,” Chris recalls. “It didn’t bother me much right away, but after that, the hip and lower back pain started, and it just kept getting worse.”
As a hands-on business owner, Chris was constantly on the move, working side by side with his crew. He was also busy keeping up with his ten grandchildren. But eventually, the pain began interfering with everything.
“When I went in for my annual physical this year, I told my doctor it had gotten to the point where I couldn’t sleep,” he says. “He took an X-ray and said, ‘I’m not a radiologist, but it doesn’t look very good.’”
A friend recommended Dr. Joshua Carter at Midwest Center for Joint Replacement (MCJR) and that connection changed everything.
Finding the Right Fit
“When I first met Dr. Carter, I was a little nervous because I didn’t know him,” Chris admits. “But after he looked at my X-rays, he told me I was a perfect candidate for surgery, and right then, I knew he was the guy for me.”
“I never anticipated truly getting back to what I was,” Chris says. “And here I am, I feel better than I have in ten years.”
A Seamless Experience from Start to Finish
Chris was amazed by how simple and efficient the process was.
“The whole thing was amazingly easy,” he says. “I showed up at 8:00 a.m., had surgery at 10:00, and was home in my own bed by 3:00 in the afternoon. It was incredible.”
He couldn’t believe how smooth the experience was or how quickly he returned to normal life. “I thought I’d be here for hours in recovery or need to stay overnight,” he says. “But it was perfect. I couldn’t be happier.”
Getting Back to What Matters Most
Today, Chris is back on the job and back to chasing his grandkids, without pain holding him back.
“I feel like myself again,” he says. “Dr. Carter and the team at MCJR made it possible for me to get back to work, back to my family, and back to living life.”
